Heather Bruce is a passionate natural health detective, who began her formal acupuncture training with a six week old baby in tow in 1977. Wanting the best for her family, she privately researched, extending into all forms of natural health care, body and womb work. Always a contrarian and critical thinker, she found better results to be outside her training. Passionately uncovering anything that came her way, her results blossomed instantly. Working heartfully, totally involved, thorough and focused, she began mentoring and teaching.
In 1980 she was invited to develop a new Brisbane acupuncture college. Inviting a colleague, they co designed, co wrote and taught the new curriculum from 1981. Heather birthing three more children (1984, 86 and 94), she took time off to rescue her massively brain injured, expected-to-die newborn daughter from 1986. The mothering and subsequent birthing focus enabled Heather to develop her signature systems. Gently retrieving normal/optimal functioning in bodies that so often give warnings only to be ignored, numbed, and silenced.
Now there are arthroscopies, anti inflammatories, anti depressants, HRT, hormonal implants, stomach and duodenal ulcer medications, taken for granted. Not so in the late 70’s where Heather honed her skills. Working without limitations, knowing that the body heals itself, when the layers of blockages are lifted, nothing seemed too complicated. Return to what should be happening, undo what broke normal and use this as the natural template to back the clock. Bodies heal when they are allowed to. Undo why they can’t. Simple.
Sounds like the Wild West
Heather’s early work with seemingly ‘hopeless’ cases involved pain. Imagine this. No anti inflammatories, steroids were in their infancy, and no surgical assistance . . .those with alarming body disfigurations (rheumatic arthritis prior to modern pharmaceuticals), no laprocsopies, women in massive gyne trouble, no modern pharmaceuticals – bleeding stomach and duodenal ulcers, all gut trauma, no arthrosciopes or neurological pain numbers – pain from spinal, sporting, accidental and life events was dealt with stoically. Before endometriosis was diagnosed (needed laproscopes for this), before IVF and then C sections with epidurals, prior to doulas: Heather being the only woman acupuncturist in Brisbane city, had a head start in all matters reproduction.
Adding in to her Moving Blockages to Healing style, Heather’s ‘What Dads Can Do’ suite of resources, were perfected after her extensive home and hospital birth support work. By normalising high risk pregnancies she was the ‘go to’ in all hard cases – word of mouth. Often taking couples from infertility through their entire family journey into being grandparents.
Combining globally diverse women’s ways of knowing, utilising traditions handed down from ages past, and using the very best in multiple modalities, Heather has travelled the world teaching in NZ, Indonesia, Korea, France, Germany and USA.
VENUE – now local in house at FNQ
Heather’s Life Alignment Centre in Coorparoo went the way of so many brilliant teaching/treating locations in early 2020. After relocating briefly home to NZ over that time, she dissolved her massive pregnancy specialty there, relocating to FNQ four years ago. From teaching/mentoring online, and traveling south to coach her hands-on students, treating past recipients of her care, Heather is now opening to help those who wish to be active in their return to health.
