Breech – a question that needs asking – and answering – why?

A normal position of baby lying where s/he feels best ‘at home’.

For whatever reason.
I suggest that we run down the obvious and maybe make it now

UNcomfy – so bub shifts.

Gently – no pressure.
And has done up to 42 weeks in my clinic – but NO moxa on Bl 67.
What do I do?
Undo why bub is breech – if possible

In the year of writing (2005) What Dads Can Do, I contacted a few people who I knew were ‘birthie’ inclined, and as we were both then living in NZ – me in the back blocks of rural West Coast – I well remember trying to explain to one such person – (who did not disclose that she was writing a book for midwives who were doing a short course in acupuncture in Europe – to bridge the gap in their training into TCM and needling) when she asked me many things. Among them –  what to do with breech?

She was adamant that the same thing (moxa Bl 67) was to be done as a block of 10 sessions – whether or not bub had turned. She could not grasp what I had written in my book – fix why baby is comfy there – well before you intend to heroically try to shift/her/him. As someone she freely quoted in her own 2005 book – I would have thought that she would have listened deeper. Especially with my track record in having written and taught in this since before she herself was a student – even in nursing.

The idea of ‘a dose’ of sessions came up – as it would if you were doing a TCM herbalised version of energy medicine – NOT moving Qi or why it is obstructed – but forcing the issue.

‘Because the Chinese did this’

Not what we do in this country. Not reasonable to me who had spent decades trying to puzzle out what else had been missing in the male dominated/medicalised acupuncture training I had been subjected to. I gradually undid the assumptions – helped by my having had my 4 children in 1977, 84, 86 and 94.

I experienced in my own body/life the changes in expectations and fads in medicalised birthing practices.

In clinic – what women had been exposed to from the times of my own mother and grandmother (starting in practice in 1979) – and as I treated mainly women – and their bellies and stories were my daily life. A page for health workers to ponder – Why is that baby breech?

Here is a chart that I have now as part of the Pregnancy Resources available below
Forcing bub out of breech – is this a solution? Why not undo why baby feels best there?

Why do I not moxa Bl 67?

Is not needed
Not even as a last resort

Even 40+ years ago I was not getting the results the Chinese were telling us – always over 90% – I doubted that – but maybe as the women then (45 _+years ago – would not have been slouching in modern chairs.  .but leaning forwards working with their bodies all day).
After I had stopped thinking I was not doing it right (as the only woman working as an acupuncturist in Brisbane at the time – I saw all pregnancy – as all were taught to not treat pregnant women – and I was the only one with the nous to do so . .

Case 1 – Josi – had now her 4th breech

Breech twins – could (and have) looked like ..
She came to see me. .  .
After correcting her past HELPP and high stress and – very dodgy health.

And undoing her very bent totally out of shape tailbone –
And had an easy fast normal birth – after 2 C sections (twins both breech also) .
Why not ask ourselves
W
hy are they settling into breech?
4 of them?

Case 2

Mum wanted a natural water birth as the first 2 boys were.
Third pregnancy – twins and presenting one was in breech all the time.

Now 34 weeks not – how?
She had traveled 2 hours to see me as I am, and have always been in her life –  the voice of calm and common sense and in this last ‘scare’ her husband said ‘you need to go and see Heather’.
So – 2nd visit 2 weeks ago – I undid her coccyx.
This third visit –  I straightened her scoliosis – and she came out and said  “I don’t feel pregnant!”
I know how she feels – as I designed some of this work with pregnant with my Mr 39 now – and I looked down to check that my baby was still there – as I have seen so many women do.

This is ‘just’ my innovative thinking in obstetrics – no TCM here – it is all life/all meridian based.
And some handy touch therapy . .Last time – She waddled in and wandered out – bemused.  .
After that 2nd visit two weeks ago, when she gave herself a day off and lay down in A/.C. all day (her work place was 40C) they turned. And have stayed down.

Now we have:  one head down and engaged and the other head down waiting to come

What did I do?
Cleared out why she had a stuck baby gate – pelvic opening.
Her baby one was posterior and 9 lbsher sacrum is still sticking out from that.
I will sort that out next visit – I can’t do too much as she is not yet ‘ripe’ and also – she has to drive herself back home – hopefully next week husband will gift them both a day off so I can continue the magic. .Heather’s  Gentling Ways – as I always have done – treat her – not ‘the condition’. Her back . . . not a chiro as she has spent decades seeing structural people.
Visceral – fascial

Extras baby support within (her back will be grateful)
Faja and baby wrap – use it now
Wrapping a baby bump to stop back pain . .
